analysis of why the colony was founded and how it affected who moved to the colony
The colony was founded by Roger Williams. He was a young minister who believed that the Puritan Church had too much power. So he was kicked out of Massachusetts in 1635. So in 1636, he found Rhode Island seeking religious tolerance and he buys it from the Native Americans. This affected everyone who moved to the colony that were Jewish, Protestant, or a Catholic. They got to worship their own religion not having anyone tell them they cannot.
Economy
The colonists that lived in towns along the coast of Rhode Island, made their living from fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding. Farming was difficult due to the poor soil and especially hard to grow wheat. But corn, pumpkins, rye, squash and beans were planted and were grown.
Geography
Flat rolling hills and low lands. Mountains with trees, rivers and it was hard to farm due to the poor rocky soil.
Government
Anne Hutchinson and her followers adopted a new government which provided for trial by jury and separation of church and state. In 1651 England claimed the right to choose a governor for Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, with a provincial council. On July 15, 1663 King Charles II granted for Rhode Island to become a charter colony and Providence Plantations.( Charter- was largely self-governed and established the rules of government.) Rhode Island colonists had a great amount of freedom within those rules.
