- Virginia was founded to expand there trade and it was a good place for farming.
- It was also built to have religious freedom.
- Virginia grew and exported tobacco, rice, and indigo to England.
- They also grew crops like corn and potatoes.
- Manufacturing was very important in the 19th century.
- They had cotton mills, tobacco-processing plants, ironwork, paper mills, and shipyards.
- Virginia is separated into 5 different physical regions. They are Virginia's Coastal Plain, the Piedmont, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau.
- Virginia has fertile farmlands, rivers, and swamps.
- It has a temperate climate with rich support for agriculture.
- The government in Virginia from the 1600s to the 1700s was know as The House of Burgesses.
- After the late 1700s the government was renamed as the Virginia General Assembly.
- The House of Burgesses was the first legislative body in America that gave settlers the opportunity to control their own government.
- George Washington, 1st U.S. president, was born and died in Virginia.
- Robert E Lee, Confederate General, was born and died in Virginia.
- Chris Brown, hip-hop dancer and singer was born in Tappahannock, Virginia.
- Micheal Vick, football player was born in Newport News, Virginia.
- People in Virginia were Anglican.
- This meant they were required to attend church twice daily, to observe the Sabbath, and not to swear and drink heavily.
